Peerage of Science
21 Oct 2014

Peerage of Science is hiring a Senior full-stack developer, and a Junior developer.
[UPDATE: position has been filled]

The things you create here will be used by thousands of scientists and academic journals around the world.

We are based in Jyväskylä, Finland, but you can work from anywhere on the planet, on your own schedule, with daily contact with other team-members. We care about what you create and how we can change the world together, not about how many hours you spend at office. You will be among the first hires in an expanding start-up, and your compensation will include stock options on top of your salary. The position turns permanent after a trial period.

[Oct 22 - Correction: Earlier version of this posting said people who do not live in Finland could work on freelancer contract. We've been advised by authorities we can't do this. Apologies for the wrong information. You may still fly to Bali or Antarctica or wherever you want right after we hire you, as long as you have right to work and a permanent address in Finland, and working internet connection to stay in daily contact.]

  • Senior full-stack developer. Together with the creating founder and the junior developer, you will be designing and creating version 2.0 of the Peerage of Science peer review and submission platform. You will also be maintaining the service already in production, so you are proficient in managing the existing LAMP+JS stack. But your primary passion is creating a beautiful, flowing new UI / UX of Peerage of Science, and developing new features.

Skills and experience: Advanced degree in relevant field such as computer science or software engineering, or equivalent expertise demonstrated in portfolio. Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining whole complex web applications.

  • Junior developer. Together with founders, and coached by the senior developer, you will have the opportunity to learn and be responsible for diverse web development tasks spanning the whole complex application rather than one specialized corner. You understand MySQL, PHP, HTML5, CSS, Javascript and jQuery, but realize there is always more and can't wait to experience and learn.

Skills and experience: An undergraduate degree in relevant field such as computer science or software engineering, or equivalent expertise demonstrated in portfolio. Demonstrated experience in creating elements of complex web applications.

Positions are filled as soon as good candidates are found. So get in touch right now via LinkedIn, Stack Overflow Careers or email, with a short description of who and what you are, and what you vision yourself doing at Peerage of Science. Include a CV and links to places where we can learn about your creations.
